FAQ's About Our Liquor Training Classes
Q: Is Discovery approved to grant certification proving liquor class completion for licensing?
A: Yes. We are certified and approved by ADLLC to grant a signed certificate to be turned in to ADLLC for liquor licensing, or to be given to anyone as proof of completion for employment, insurance, compliance, or any other purpose.
Q: When do I get my ADLLC Liquor Law Training Certificate?
A: When you successfully complete our class.
Q: Do all my employees need to get certified in a liquor law class for Basic Liquor law?
A: Yes, it is advisable since you are responsible for your employees actions in the handling of spirituous liquors.
A licensee shall ensure that the licensee, manager, managing agent, any controlling person, any employee who serves, sells, or furnishes spirituous liquor to a retail customer, and any individual who will be physically present and operating the licensed business completes a liquor law training course that is approved by the department under R19-1-216 at least once every five years. The word SHALL in legal terms means you MUST. It is a command.
Q: What is a VIRTUAL CLASSROOM?
A: A virtual classroom is where you join our live classroom using a computer, web cam and a microphone. You are able to fully interact with your instructor and other classmates both in classroom and virtual. We can have up to ten virtual students at a time. We have a camera on our instructor and two cameras on the classroom students, so you really do join the class.
The instructor and other students can see you in what we call a POD on our 55" flat screen TV in the classroom. The interaction is real time with no lag or canned content. With our VIRTUAL CLASS you can take our class and receive the best training available from any part of the state, without wasting extra time on travel or the extra expense of travel and lodging.
Q: Is there an extra charge for virtual classroom?
Yes there is a $30 charge per class, because virtual has extra administration time we do to set you up for the Virtual Classroom format. You will be able to select this add-on as an option in our shop, when you check-out online.
Q: How long will I be in class before completion and certification?
A: Completion means when our certified instructor believes all attendees understand the mandatory material for certification. We try to complete by the four or six hour minimums set in law, but these are minimum class times; we rarely go more than a half an hour to an hour overtime, including time spent on breaks and the working lunch.
Q:: How should I dress for study & test?
A: In classroom or virtual dress comfortably. In classroom - layers are good. If you tend to get cold in air conditioning bring a sweater or long sleeved shirt. If you easily get warm, wear a short sleeved shirt. Generally it is comfortable for most in a short sleeve shirt or blouse. Virtual - please no pajamas or bare chests.
Q: What do I bring with me to class?
- Valid government issued picture ID with birth date. If virtual you will need to show it on camera, scan or fax a copy to us.
- Paper and pen to take notes
- Lunch for our working lunch
Q: Can I bring food, drinks, and snacks?
A: Yes. We have a refrigerator & microwave for your use. There is also a drink & snack vending machine in our break room for your convenience.
Q: Can I eat & drink during the class?
A: Yes, eating and drinking is allowed. Just be courteous to other classmates. We have a working lunch so we can let you out timely.
Q: Can I smoke during the class?
A: NO. Arizona is a smoke-free state. You may smoke outside our building at a break. If you are virtual please do not smoke during instruction as it is a distraction to other students that smoke.
Q: I'm the liquor licensee, how can I save money on my liability insurance?
A: Many insurance companies give premium discounts, if all employees handling alcohol are at least Basic certified.
Q: What happens after class?
A: We issue you your certificate at class completion, but our instruction does not end there. We are available to answer your liquor compliance questions throughout the year. Just think of us as your personal consultants. Some complicated issues may require a paid consultation.
Q: What if I need Food Safety certification as well?
A: Discovery is also certified to teach food safety managers and proctor the NRFSP national licensing certification test. We give a 10 % discount if you sign up to take both food safety and liquor law within 60 days of each other. Check our calendar for dates. We are your one stop shop for hospitality education.
Q: Is there a corporate discount for training all my staff through Discovery?
A: Whether you run a small bistro or an international hotel, Discovery has a customer loyalty program that offers discounts for certification classes in Liquor Basic and Management, Food Safety, Security/Door person, Investigator, Emergency First Responder (CPR, First aid, De fib) etc, for all your staff. Train them all at once, or let them pick from our regularly scheduled classes.
Q: What is the benefit of training all my staff through Discovery?
A: With our regularly scheduled classes, we take the stress out of scheduling. And you have peace of mind knowing your staff has been trained by the best, so they will be an asset to you, limiting your liabilities. Add to that our continued support to help your business succeed.
Q: How can I enroll and pay for class?
A: You can order your class on-line at www.shop.discoverydetectiveacademy.org Pick liquor classes and then select the correct class. Under options there is a drop down menu with the upcoming class dates. Select a date and it will put that class in your shopping cart. You can pay by Discover Card, Master Card, or Visa Debit, or pick print and call and we will call you to verify you mailed n a payment.
Q: Is paying for a class on-line safe?
A: Yes, www.shop.discoverydetectiveacademy.org is a secure site and it has it's own SSL certificate and all orders are encrypted. We do not ever see the whole credit card number given, just the last four digits. We additionally take PayPal as a form of payment.
Q: I am coming from out of town where can I stay?
A: We are located by many hotels, resort, business, and discount chains. We have special room rates from a business boutique hotel that is just around the block from us, called Scottsdale Thunderbird Suites. Please let them know you are from Discovery Detective Academy to receive our special room rates. For pilots, this is located at the Scottsdale Airport.
